Music Video Treatment

Artist Name: Collin Johnson
Song: White Walls

A man struggles to free himself from the anxiety and monotony of daily life, but don’t we all?

Our music video will incorporate various techniques to juxtapose our main character’s transition from confusion to tranquility. Techniques will include but are not limited to the use of: time lapse, datamosh, light painting, stop motion, slow motion and green screen.
Stop motion will introduce our main character—a man who is stuck in a routine, and only capable of minimal movement and expression. Pairing green screen effects and time lapsed sequences of city activity we hope to create a sense of overwhelming chaos often found in urban spaces. Adding datamosh effects will convey the main character’s feelings as he begins to lose his ability to live within these social constraints.
His only option is to escape.
Again, time lapsed sequences will illustrate the beginning of the character’s transformation. Incorporating light painting and stop motion will delineate the eruption of energy fueling the character’s actions.
Upon escaping the stress of the city, slow motion effects will mimic the new found tranquility of nature.

Coordinating with the ambiance of our tune—think Band of Horses-esque in style with a serious disposition—the overall concept of the video will focus on the contrast between nature and nurture. Man in his natural, wild state vs. that of the modern man and social constructions.
Our narrative, however, will go in reverse; highlighting the progression from the tension of the nurturing environment which leads our character to the meltdown point.
The end result will be the full embrace of nature over the fabricated environment created through nurture…
Or perhaps you’re in for some twist ending that we just haven’t thought of yet.
